EYEWEAR DESIGN/ Exploring Unconventional Finishes
As someone who has worn glasses for most of their life, eyewear has become a part of my personal expression. The art of presenting oneself motivated me to create this personal project using unique textures. Eyewear has the ability to express and enhance one's sense of personality, through silhouette, details and material. Material Inspiration
I explored four different material finishes that inspire the cellulose acetate glasses I designed which were immensely personal to my heritage and upbringing. All the featured natural materials compliment the organic forms that the eyewear silhouettes embody, and aim to suit any user regardless of age, gender orientation, and so on.
Snakeskin
A mysterious selection based on my own Chinese Zodiac sign, which provokes the sense of mystique and subtlety.
Mother of Pearl
A distinct material seen in Philippine culture and design, as the Pearl of the Orient, which is often associated with elegance and beauty.
Jade/Capiz
Pays homage to my Filipino-Chinese background. This promotes the idea of luck and prestige.
Tobacco
A nod towards the cigar-smoking culture which was a part of my family celebratory custom. The essence of a distinguished, cultured individual is visually associated through this finish.
